Gave a quick decant and drank probably too quickly. A solid tasty Barolo, not terribly complex or deep, but nicely structured with good mouthfeel and still a good amount of sweet fruit. Still some tannic grip, so no rush to consume. A good drink, no complaints.

Miscellaneous Notes from Italy (mostly Champagne and Nebbiolo); 10/31/2015-11/6/2015 (Piemonte and Milano): Well, what better way to begin a Piemonte visit than by drinking a wine in the vineyard where it was produced on a mild, sunny fall day? Red core with a bricked edge. Some floral and leather aromas. Lighter weight. Subtle sweetness of delicate fruit followed by some creosote and strong acidity that is its core. Very nice, reaching maturity.

Two per day, why not?; 7/29/2013-8/8/2013 (Enoteca Barolo - Madrid): You've the same good thing as ever when a Chiarlo is tasted That's the problem with a Barolo modern concept. Seems it uses the same wood for every label. Without a real personality. Sweet palate. Acid, woody to the bone. Little reserved. Quite unusual for a 05.
Tienes lo rico de siempre cuando tomas un Chiarlo. Ese el problema de un Barolo de concepto moderno. Parece que usa la misma madera para todas las etiquetas. Sin una personalidad de verdad. Boca dulce. Ácida, amaderada a tope. Un poco reservada. Un poco inusual para una 05.

Tasted as part of a generous five vintage vertical (for 35 euros!) at the superb Palas Cerequio, a new nine suite inn/cantina owned by Michele Chiarlo and located down a narrow dirt road inside the Cerequio vineyard below La Morra. Tasted against the '07, '03, '97 and '93. Although this softened over the course of the evening, it began fairly closed and tannic. Still a deep garnet, it drank very young. After some air and time it showed the classic red fruit/earth/tobacco one expects, but the tannins are still fairly grippy. I'd give this one another couple of years, at which time it should be spectacular, and well able to hold its own against any of the regional meats and pastas. Ranked second behind the '07 in our tasting.

Michele Chiarlo Azienda Vitivinicola (The Wine Summit at the Post Hotel in Lake Louise): Darker ruby - broader rim; aromas are subdued - coaxed up some smirky oak and grilled meat; finely balanced with attractive fruit driven flavors - black berries; good length on the finish.
