Meaty and juicy, with a nice brier and raspberry jam aroma that follows through on the palate. Viscous legs and deep red in and on the glass. Touch of beef blood followed by berries and roses, with some woodland notes, finishing with some tar nuances and black licorice. Drinking well now.

Nondescript bouquet upon opening. Thought t'was corked. But it came alive with some air. Ruby red with light pencil lead/graphite in the nose. Kind of like an inverse Oreo, with everything concentrated at the front and back but hollow in the middle. First sips are a bit too feisty -- whoa boy! -- with an aggressive acidity framed by sour cherries and tart cranberries. Calms down a bit after an hour, suggesting that decanting might be best at this stage. However, my guess is that time in the bottle won't help much.

Very tight blackberry fruit with hint of pencil lead shavings, difficult to assess after 1 hour of opening, short finish, preferred other 2007 Margerum wines more
