Great wine. Opened with a fresh, vibrant nose. Oak is barely noticeable. Plums and blackberries. Has mellowed with time, so now not as massive as it was as a young wine.
Happy birthday, Rolf!

BBQ @ Chris and Cae's (Newton Suites): From a magnum, this has a rather different character from a 2006 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz we had alongside, big pretty good in its own right. The nose was very much Aussie Shiraz, with sweet dark berries, cassis and plums layered alongside bits of earth, meat and eucalyptus. A touch more modern and polished then the Rockford, with the balance skewed a little more towards the fruit, and less towards the savoury accents. The palate has a real solidity to it, with full, ripe and powerful black-fruited flavours of plums and blackberries stuffed into a firm frame of chewy tannins and juicy acidity leading into a full, fruity finish. Again, there were bits of spice and herb in there, hinting at more development to come. A solid Barossa Shiraz without being truly special. In magnum, this will get better with a few more years in the bottle though.

Deep, sound, classic Barossa overstayed Shiraz. Fully mature best drunk up during next 5 years.

Drink up. Acid poking out now and fruit declining. Good drink still but went downhill fast on Day 2.
