  • California Wine Weekend; 12/1/2023-12/3/2023 (Mos Eisley Cantina & Waterhouse Restaurant): A nice minty eucalyptus expression of syrah here. Blackberry, raspberry, bramble, sweet herbs, mint and meaty charcuteries. This is a great wine that has not yet fully integrated its american oak. A stunning expression of syrah.

  • Edges are beginning to brick but still deeply coloured. This is classic Aussie Shiraz - but a very good one: generous damson, blackberry, loganberry - fruit still prevalent and not drying out. tertiary leather and barbecue meat notes beginning to evolve. This is a delicious wine with a good backbone of acidity and tannin to endure for several more year. Long and quite complex.

  • Lots of deposit in the bottle, so decanting very advised. 14% alcohol.

Quite translucent cherry red color with a rather developed maroon hue. The nose is very powerful and noticeably blackcurrant-driven with quite tertiary aromas of raisins, some soft-cooked bell peppers, a little bit of petrol, light stewed strawberries, a hint of plum jam and a lifted touch of balsamic VA. The wine is full-bodied, dense and very ripe on the palate with dry and intense flavors of meaty umami, peppery spice, some brambly blackberries, a little bit of sweet boysenberries, light pruney tones, a hint of savory woody spice and a touch of mocha oak. Overall the wine feels impressively focused and vibrant, although the developed nose didn't promise much. The structure relies more on the moderately high acidity than on the ripe, mellow and almost fully resolved tannins that contribute mainly to the texture. The finish is spicy and savory with lengthy flavors of meaty umami, some peppery spice, a little bit of fresh, ripe blackberry, light woody tones, a hint of sweet mocha oak and a touch of leather.

A powerful and surprisingly firm Aussie Shiraz with nice sense of development. A classic example of well-aged new world red; the wine still shows some oak influence, but most of the wood tones are so well-integrated that they really don't distract. The nose feels quite sweet-toned, but on the palate the wine is enjoyably dry and savory. No need to age the wine further, it is in a great spot right now. Stylish stuff. Tremendous value at 30€.
