29th Birthday Chateauneuf du Pape Tasting (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): I picked this white Chateauneuf to start of what would inevitably be a red wine-dominated tasting. It’s a blend of 40% grenache blanc and 20% each of roussanne, clairette and bourboulenc. On the nose: white flowers, papaya, hint of cotton candy, apricot blossom. Palate: fresh acid leads to a nutty, white peach and toasted nut palate with lemon zest and honey on the finish. Very acidic for a CdP, and Val said it was too much acid for her. For me, I was excited to see such a complex CdP blanc have so much fresh acid. Even better after five hours being open.

Light yellow. Beautiful rich nose of lemon, apple cocconut and rich fruit flavours and a perfect dry finish. This and the 09 were our favorite whites of the trip. We were lucky enough to meet Monsieur Raymond at the tasting room and loved him and his wines.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape tasting: The nose had green apple and lemon/lime aromas. The palate had some tart stone fruit flavors with grapefruit coming out near the finish. Nice acidity though. Showed much better than the Vieux Telegraph Blanc we tasted this next to.

Rich but not overpowering. Probably too much for appetitive. Rounded bouquet. Very satisfying
