  • Typically dense Sottimano - not at all the more "feminine" side of Nebbiolo. Spice, crushed berries, and beginnings of earthy loam notes. Herbs and smoke. I really do like Sottimano's wines.

  • For a warm vintage, the wine is still remarkably primary. Assertive tannins, the result, perhaps, of the use of barrique. Rich crushed red berry fruit, with the mint or basil under-notes I often get from Sottimano wines. With a couple of hours of air, this came together very nicely. Will do well for another decade, well stored.

  • As recommended by Ebbe, this excellent Barbaresco was enjoyed without decanting. Simply letting the wine evolve and open itself up throughout the night. Lovely dark red core with a slightly lighter rim. At first, it is mostly the chocolate and dark cherries dominating, but little by little it opens up and shows roses, coffee and prunes. Beautiful after taste that lingers on and on. Not flabby and overripe as some other 2000s I have had. This is just so easy to drink and enjoy. 91 pts.

  • Lighter ruby/orange colour. Aromas of vanilla, violetes, and anise; a touch richer than the 2001 at this point. Medium-full bodied, already enjoyable. Present but not overwhelming tannins and showing red fruit, tarragon, and spice. Good acidity/freshness. Lingering finish ~45-50s. Let this one sleep for many more years to get full enjoyment from the wine if you only have a couple bottles.

  • tre bicchere (slow food, gambero rosso) tasting in Munich:
medicine nuances (like the smell in a hospital), balsamic, round, complex, long finish
