‘Buzbağ Rezerv’ is the reincarnation of the once famous Tekel brand, the one that still springs to mind when Turkish wine is mentioned. Staying faithful to the original wine, it is an almost equal blend of Boğazkere and Öküzgözü, albeit aged in mostly new French oak for 24 months (with the exception of 22 months for the 2010 vintage). The grapes are sourced from vineyards in the Elazığ and Diyarbakır areas under long term contract. Kayra also has its own vineyards in the Alpagut Region in Elazığ and possibly some of the grapes are also in this label especially in recent vintages. Garnet colour, even paler than the 2004. Pretty nose with a foremost bouquet showing dried red berries along with wet leaves and a meaty tang. The most harmonious and tightly knit wine in the entire selection of the vertical tasting with red fruit, alas on the fading side, firm tannins that are not drying, bright acidity under a medium palate weight.

Found more pleasure in this bottle than in previous ones. Some berries on the nose, good palate, smooth tannins, with good fruit matching the oak. Easy to drink, even on its own.

Drank it in a restaurant. Still a decent wine, but not very well balanced. Found oak to be too dominating, fruit fading, acidity too high on the finish. Light-medium body. I think this is now getting out of its drinking window. Drink up!

Decanted one hour. Intense and bright ruby colour. Nose of blackberry, plum, spices and a touch of toasted oak. Mouth is medium-bodied, smoothly textured, a bit tannic, maybe a bit too acidic. Short finish. Overall, it is nice, but not worth the price (about 16-17€).

Weak on the nose and palate, declining fruit. But still drinkable.
