  • Coravin fun - Haut Bailly (My place, Kent Street): Popped and poured. Farmyard, forest floor, meaty, green peppercorn, wild ferment funkiness, touch of volatility, rocky minerality, leather, volatile on the palate - a little almost lemon, sour blackberry, farmyard, tight rocky tannins, dried orange peel. Hmm.

  • From Coravin. Whole bunch, rocky minerality, black hued fruits; blackberry and bramble, a little rustic with a sour note, leather, pink peppercorns. Juicy, savoury, slightly sour black fruit – think wild blackberries and slightly unripe plums, chalky tannins, rocky minerality but all in balance, nice

  • From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of very slightly sour wild blackberry, crushed rock, there is also some jubey blackberry and blackcherry here as well as touches of charcuterie and smoked bacon. On the palate it's sourly juicy, drying grippy tannins, chalky textured are slathered with charcuterie meats, leather here as well. Yum.

  • Cornas lunch (Macleay Street Bistro, Potts Point): The appearance is clear and deep ruby in colour. Tears and sediment are visible.

The nose is clean. The aromas have a medium intensity and show notes of black fruit (black plum), and bottle-age/vegetal characteristics (olive tapenade). The wine is developing.

On the palate, the wine is dry with medium(+) acidity, medium alcohol, and medium body. The medium level tannins are ripe and silky in nature. The flavours have a medium intensity and show notes of black fruit (black plum), and bottle-age/vegetal and mineral nuances (olive tapenade, earthy character). The finish has a medium length, showing an additional note of charcuterie.

This is a very good quality wine. The flavours are concentrated and have a great balance with the acidity and the alcohol. The tannins have a good balance with the acidity. The neutral oak treatment does not interfere with the fruit expression. In its current state, the wine shows primary and tertiary characters. The finish has a good length.

The wine drinks well now, but has potential for further ageing. The fruit intensity is great, and the tannin and acid structure should support the wine as tertiary notes continue to develop.

  • Cornas Birthday lunch (McLeay Street Bistro, Potts Point): "Savoury, crushed rock, green and black pepper, muted jubey black fruit, farmyard stink. Juicy, a little sharp, lovely drying, toasted textured tannins carry long with peppery underpin. Yum.

After 2 hours leather, gamey, peppery spice, brambles. Savoury, juicy, lightly tannic, peppery and rocky. "
