  • Weekly tasting group RWP #347; 1999 (@ BS): Beautiful bouquet with stable smells, autumn forest, tobacco, chocolate and leather. Complex and with a beautiful touch of oak. On the palate also a beauty, earth, complex and juicy with a touch of sweetness and red fruit acidity. Mild acidity. The wine developed real quickly in the glass. Just after pouring it certainly deserved a score of 92.

  • Wow what a great value this was. It was fairly dark for the age, cork came out very clean, no bricking. Nice rich perfectly aged Chianti. Good rich fruit flavor with still enough backbone to make it well balanced. Enjoyed very much

  • Monthly Tasting Group HWS #113; Italy: Chianti Classico Riserva (By BS): In the bouquet red fruits, earth, herbs, licorice and laurel. On the palate red berries, cherries, autumn forest, tea, iron, chocolate, good acidity and powdery, slightly drying tannin.

  • Orange and rose color to the rim. It's wines of this color, that draw me to attention. Red fruit and plump black cherry aromas. Flinty, but not sulfurous. Retaining some fresh waxy fruit appeal in the nose. Damn earth, worn leather.
On the palate, lots of fine grained texture to the palate. Dried floral notes all up front. Medium chalky tannin persists. The palate doesn't initially get to the fruit shown on the nose. Some mint and spice. Solid core on the palate, but fruit and floral up front, finishing more rustic and deep and bass-y.
A sweet maple and woodsmoke aroma. As this opens up over the first half hour, the palate really pulls together. Solid palate with dark and rustic fruit. Full texture palate with medium tannin giving this years. Drink to 2024.
2 hours in, cherry Popsicle, rainwater, mineral aromas. Lots of fresh acidity to the palate.
Holding just fine on Day 2. More of a candied lavender on the palate.

  • A very good and interesting wine, but moving towards the end of its drinking window. Medium bodied, with soft, integrated tannins, and lots of tertiary characteristics: earthy, tobacco, leather. Still a good amount of cherry fruit, but that's slowly moving into balsamic notes. Thoroughly enjoyable though. Drank over 2 days, definitely better on day 1.
