Dark, with a thin orange-brown hue around the margin. Upon opening this wine it was clear it needed some time to breathe. For a second I was even worried it was corked. After roughly 30 minutes in the decanter the bouquet opened up and the aromas seemed to find their place.
Oaky nose, tar, leather, cinnamon; all very musky. Loads of herbs, even some eucalyptus. Chocolate. The fruit is not very prominent, which is not surprising on account of this bottle being of near-adolescent age. A hint of cherry, kirsch and raisins.
On the palate, this wine is surprisingly smooth. Tannins come on big but quickly and elegantly diffuse, almost as if to coat the mouth in a thin base layer. The modest yet persistent acidity provides just enough lift to prevent the smokey tones to dominate too much. Well-balanced.
I would not wait too long to drink this wine, right now it seems to give all that it has.

Last time I said I was going to wait a year, off course I couldn't. So three months later this wine is back to its prime. Or is it just bottle variation? In any case, we had a treat together with Lies' lovely Lasagna. Sangiovese the way we like it: fresh, intense, sour cherries and just the perfect food wine.

After a glorious youth, this wine is currently a bit disjointed. The wood is dominating the typical sangiovese characteristics, therefore I drop it 3 points. Maybe wait a year.

Starting to dig this wine better and better. Don't be fooled by the funk on the nose upon opening. It all comes together when the secundi piatti arrives. It accompanies mediterrenean main courses in the way one can only hope for: structured, lively and full of fruit. Delicious once again.

Another one down, again excellent. This wine is at its best after 3-4 hours of opening. First glass comes across as rather mature, but once you hit your third at the end of your dinner, you're in sangiovese paradise. One critical note: the wine's magic has disappeared the next day, so finish it the first day of opening. Which won't be a problem at all...
Had some left the day after, and this time the bottle stood strong. So it's 93 points after all...
