(13.7%) My 3rd bottle (from a case I won in a fundraiser auction) and I remember my previous bottles as being over oaked (granted I’m sensitive). While it is still heavy here this is starting to smooth out with nice cranberry fruit and cedar notes joined by a pleasant acidity that leads to a light tangy, tannic finish. Seems to be entering a nice drinking window. Certainly my best yet…

(Red Newt Cellars Cabernet Franc Sawmill Creek Vineyards Finger Lakes) Bursting with black cherries, violets and earthy tobacco leaf, the nose on the Red Newt Cellars 2007 Sawmill Creek Vineyards Cabernet Franc ($39) shows light smoky oak, spice and subtle herbal-eucalyptus notes in the background as well. Medium-bodied, the impeccably balanced palate welcomes a bit of plum to the party where black cherry, smoke and earthy flavors are framed by great acidity and ripe, lithe tannins. The cherry-tinged finish is long with earthy and herbal nuance, ending on a varietal tobacco leaf note.

matches previous note. Cedary, soft and smooth before turning rich and plush on the palate. Quite pleasing...

Cranberry, black cherry nose. Bramble fruit with hints of vine and toffee. Palate slightly styptic, long. Youthful, vibrant. @FLXbistro
