Intending to Coravin a sample, the needle pushed the cork down into the bottle a bit; trying to pull the cork only made it worse, with the cork dropping down entirely into the bottle. Fearing the worst for the wine, assuming that with the cork that loose, the wine would be DOA, I sampled and was pleasantly surprised. Dried cherry, black tea, mushroom, sous bois. Prominent buy not overbearing acidity. Paired well with koji duck confit with duck fat shiitake fried rice. Lovely old bottle.

A lovely nose with flowers, sous, tea, red fruit and soil. Classic and elegant on the palate despite a bit light. A very enjoyable old burg that still retained fruit and freshness.

6 Well Aged Red Burgundys (Walnut Creek, Ca.): Tasting of 6 Red Burgundy. Nice, light bacon and caramel on the nose, lovely, rich wine on the palate, medium body, too much acid on the long finish. 3rd Place.
