This was epic. One of the best glasses of champagne that I've ever had -- toasty with some sherry notes, plenty of acid... simultaneously rich and sharp. So good!

not blind, Magnum Stunning, much too fresh and young but typical Selosse elements. Cracking acidity, some honey, creme brullee and roasted almonds. Pinenuts and apple pie. Far away from his peak but lovely to drink. 98

The dress shows beautiful signs of evolution with a golden yellow. The effervescence is suggested more than present with a very fine bubble.
The nose is powerful, on honey, spices and candied tangerine.
The palate is in the purest tradition of the domaine, oxidative. But it is fine and mastered like a goldsmith's job. In addition to the oxidative character, the palate is powerful but deliciously honeyed. The juice is ample and unfolds in the mouth with serenity. The wine is of delicious complexity, with this candied mandarin that keeps coming back, spices with saffron and dry biscuit. It's layered and powerful. Magnificent finish, rich and iodized like an old Chablis which unrolls a silky and delicate length that never ends.
As often with Selosse, it's a great moment.

(Jacques Selosse Blanc de Blancs) Dense but so fine with an incredibly salinity to it all. The first wine to show a hint of oxidation. So slight it was that it only added complexity. Even the biggest oxidized-wine-a-phobe would love this aroma. Biscuity, pure and clean this showed the youngest of all the wines. The inner mouth aroma, though combined with the ultra sleek mousse and oxidative notes really turned this wine up to 11 for me. There was also brilliant use of oak. It was the only wine that showed any traces of oak but they were perfectly integrated and actually added to the wine. The finish lasted and lasted. Just stellar stuff with unlimited potential. I have not had a '98 Champagne close to this yet.
