Alongside 98, 99. Earthy start with lots of apple, this cleaned up considerably with an hour+ of air. Clearly mature but with enough concentration and acidity to keep this going.

Dark color. Floral start with mature, ripe fresh peach and dried apricot with butterscotch and sage. Also clearly mature flavors, but with the dry extract and acidity to retain enough freshness to remain enjoyable. Surprisingly good for its age from a mediocre vintage, although this was better a decade back. Started losing steam once open an hour+.

Rich stone fruit with sweet spice. Impressive density, near Grand Cru level. Seemed much fresher and younger than 1997 tonight. Very good right now.
