Henri Gouges wine needs plenty of time to come around. It was the oldest Gouge I have ever bad. The nose had earth, iron, plum, and dirt. Palate was rich with the sweetness of the 85 vintage. For its age, the acidity was still very pronounced. Very good power on the palate. A very classic nsg from a classic maker which is not trendy when tasters prefer a floral burgundy with sweet and delicate red fruit.

The Gouges was not decanted, so was a bit reticent at first. After a couple of minutes the nose really came on, and the palate was a wonder. Kept going strong, and got richer, spicier, meatier, and a touch smoky (while keeping a good backbone) over 1 1/2 hrs. There was a wonderful deep touch of sweetness that I have often had in 85s.
