Not as impressive as previous bottles. Dark, powerful, no refinement lack of differentiation. Over time softening and more elegance. But , still there!!! 91+ Tasting 52-53-54 at house of friend Frans, meal prepared by Eugenie.

A bit subdued after the bombastic style of the '52 Berbarana, but a wonderful wine in its own right. After an hour it was in a better place and was showing more confidence and persistence.
Subtle nose, delicate aroma's of mushrooms, cassis, old leather, something wild and barnyard-like. The sandy tannins are soft but plentiful. The finish is feminine and distinguished. What elegance, what refinement!
Thanks, FransS!

My 5th 1952(+) tasting (At amy home, Haarlem, The Netherlands): Startiing with a bit too much wet wood, but it disappeared after two hours, a dark colour, a bit rough, very tasty, spicy, a bit sharp in the finish, but after some hours the elements integrated more and there was a certain balance, still firm, but not dry tannins; alive and kicking!

English bottled by Rigby and Evans of Liverpool and Bristol in a nice dark green bottle. Firm cork though it did break on opening. Gingery nose, stables, rosehips and brambly fruit, lovely aromas, smells much younger than 60 years old. Fine colour, tawny rim, garnet core, what you would hope to see. Slow oxygenated for 5 hours and because clearly in good condition I also gave it an hour in the decanter. Splendid claret, a little tannin stil but soft, charming red fruits, deepening in the glass. Mid weight, fragrant and quite charming. Just a hint weak on the finish but really, a beautiful old wine.
