Too old - raisiny and starting to show heat. Still a fair bit of oak, after all these years. You can see that this would've been excellent a few years ago, but father time is undefeated.

Showing superbly after one-hour decant. Plenty of secondary fruit, notes of mocha and tropical fruit. Perfectly balanced acid backbone after initial muted oak.

From magnum. Interesting aromatics with ripe dark fruits mingled with tar, herbal elements, coconut and pine cones. Very plush in its mouthfeel, a little soft for my liking without much acidity or definition, but very enjoyable with the lamb.

Dark purle color; after about an hour of aeration the nose opened up to reveal cassis, vanilla and toast; medium to full body with rich complex dark berry fruit nuances; finishes strong; retasted the next day and showed no sign of oxidation; an impressive aged California Cabernes showing nice secondary flavors.

Karl Lawrence vertical ((wally's)): Some said corked bottle. I say no way. There certainly was some corkyness going on but it was still a pleasant wine to drink. I think any of the flaws just added the complexity of the wine. It was flawed because, for the vintage, it should have proved to be much better-so no score but certainly pleasant and highly drinkable.
