  • Our penultimate bottle, double decanted off its sediment two hours before it was served double blind to our dinner companions. A pristine example of this wine with a perfect cork. Aromas of leather, black currant, bell pepper and tobacco. Full-bodied and nearly fully-integrated, showing just the softest bit of tannin. Black currant, plum, cigar tobacco and herb flavors. Develops aromas of iron and asphalt as it unfurls in the glass. Balanced, with terrific fruit and long finish. Seamless. Domino and two others guessed Bordeaux, only Doc suggested California. A terrific showing for this wine. Pristine bottles such as this easily have another five years or more, however I will likely stand up our last bottle within the next month or two and plan to enjoy it in 2025. 94+ for me, 95 for Domino, and WOTN for a couple of us.

  • Tea, spicy herbs, and cassis aromatics. Still has rich fruit and the backbone that made this wine age so well. Delicious now, drink up while fruit lasts. Slightly tart finish. Impressive for its age, particularly as its from California.

  • Dinner with Friends (Aboyer): Double decanted off its sediment three hours before dinner. Dark crimson red core with slight bricking at the very edge. A rustic example, showing leather, plum and dark cabernet fruit tones. Slightly coarse tannins have just a bit of grip at this stage. Still quite nice, but bested by the Krug and CS on this night.

  • Immaculate-looking bottle. This is rugged and austere. Notes of cassis, mint, cedar, and old library books. Lots of tannins left that the fruit doesn't fully balance. Food only partially helps. I don't think the structure will ever resolve so no reason to wait longer.

  • Lots of sediment and dark garnet red. A bit of candied berries in the nose with spices and a little bit of cedar. Medium tannins (6/10) with a medium body. Great cherries on the palate with leather, balanced acidity, cassis and a little bit of earthiness. Medium plus finish. Drink till 2021.
