  • Minimal preparation, and barnyard funk from the word go.. Ripe red fruits with grainy and unresolved tannins.

Lots of sour cherry then sweetness on the mid palate, and as I was enjoying the finish.. leafy undertones were also apparent and lack of body, some thinness.

Guessed mid 1990s Super Tuscan, was surprised its a 100% Sangiovese alas not showing its typicity.

5th bottle of 11, "Of legal age" theme at Casa SKT, this was brought by LMC for our crazy evening and followed the Rausan 1975 which amazed us all!

  • One of the last of my 99 BdMs, and one that I have been looking forward to for the last decade that I have been eyeing this in the cellar. In fact, my first bottle of this was enjoyed (too early) soon after release. Appropriately matched with a long-cooked ragu di cinghiale (spectacular). This is the real deal and an absolutely spot on southern BdM. This is about as sexy as one gets in Brunello. Gorgeous gobs of black cherry fruit, roasted tomatoes, tobacco, tree bark, and creosote. This is quite masculine but has a certain delicacy to the texture that just cannot be beat. This did not disappoint and I am glad I waiting on this as long as I did. This restores my faith in the scores of bottles of Brunellos I have been storing.

  • Maybe I got lucky or maybe I was in the right mood, but this bottle was shining tonight. Bright red fruits with a hint of leather and a nice acidic backbone. Good stuff.

  • Voluptuous dark red fruits and cocoa. Rich and full in the mouth, yet balanced elements, without anything being over the top. Nicely resolved tannins, and overall drinking well, but likely declining if held much longer. A satisfying wine.

  • earth, cranberry, slate; some red currant, okra, black cherry; good acidity and tannins notable on its own but just add to the mix with the food; friendly enuf to go with the pasta/sweetbreads/dates, the ragu and also the braised beef cheeks with brown sauce; more open and structured than i recall from last year so still can hold this; reminds me why i like 1999 brunello
