  • I drink pretty much exclusively Portuguese wines, being as how I live in Portugal, but I've never had a Zinfandel, so, when I saw this in the supermarket, I thought I'd give it a go. Really rather nice, in quite a stylish way - light and easy - cherries, a little darkness, and a pretty decent finish.

  • Finding wines from back home is not easy in my corner of the world (Portugal). Seeing this bottle gathering dust among the other "Foreign" wines and assorted vinous freak shows (3 euro bottles from Chile (please)), it was quite easy to pass off, as there is, admittedly, a lot of good juice on offer from the natives at the same price (6.99 EUR).

The wife forced the bottle into the cart claiming that she had never tasted wine from the USA.

Only at home did I realize that we bought a 2007 vintage of a wine that was probably retailing back home for around $8 and has traveled around the world and sat for unknown number of months (years) in various warehouse and store shelves.

But, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, let it be known that the 2007 Ravenswood Vintners Blend Zinfandel is drinking beautifully right now.
You got your raisin, fig, cherry, with some good tertiary notes of cedar, musk.

Calibrate your expectations people, this is not a 'grand vin' nor was that ever its pretension. Does it err on the side of simplicity? Yes.
But this 7 year old plonk is still turning tricks today, probably better than it ever did back in 2007/08.

    Hear, hear!

  • Very one-sided cranberry nose that doesn't offer much more. If it wasn't for the smell of some alcohol you could actually take this for juice. Taste is rather sweet as well up front then finishing off very fast and unspectacular with a hint of acidity and a slight metallic aftertaste. Easy drinking wine, but the ones that are simply boring. Too sweet for my liking, one-sided and plain uninspired. Techincally there is nothing terrible wrong with this, it is just that I don't care for such generic juicy mass production stuff at all....
