  • NC Cindy Tasting. Still shows the light straw color with greenish tinge from the last time, and still has the nice tiny bubbles you expect from a Lambrusco. On the nose, though, this doesn't have the same subtlety as it had before, and comes across as a little medicinal. It still has that nice roundness, but lacks some of the complexity from before. The main difference from previously was the serving temperature, as previously this was chilled and this time we had it room temperature. We put it in an ice bucket for 30 minutes and it improved considerably. It still didn't rise to anything like an 89 rating, though, and the consensus was that for $16, this was at most a meh and more likely a pazz. In any case, if you get one, don't serve it too warm.

  • Light, yellow straw color, with maybe just a hint of a greenish tinge to it. The effervescence is the characteristic very tiny, prolific frizzante that you expect from a Lambrusco. On the nose, a very light apple aroma with a notable aspect of buttermilk. There's no trace of sweet on the nose, and there is a certain yeastiness, but not a strong smell like bread or beer. The yeast is a very mild undercurrent. On the palate, there is a good acidity, but still balanced by that creaminess. This is very rounded and mellow, with apple, cooked pear, and a nice core minerality which contrasts nicely with the rounded off palate. That roundness makes this a very good match with cheeses, but a little tricky with other types of food. Still, this is a very interesting sparkling wine, and it satisfies the geek-factor. When's the last time you had a white Lambrusco?
