  • Not so bad. Interesting for sure, nevertheless, a blend, so, my expectations were pretty low. Blends are always confusing, this was a gift, I have only bought blends by accident.

  • Past its peak, food friendly but with little fruit left.

  • Nice white Bordeaux blend, consisting of 73% semillon and 27% sauvignon blanc, which somehow wound up tasting surprisingly chardonnay-like, with buttery oak, and some apricot and melon flavors, all in fairly nice balance. Pleasant, supple mouthfeel. This unfortunately is the final vintage of this blend, as Clos du Val intends to make 100% sauv blanc going forward.

  • A blend of 73% Sémillon and 27% Sauvignon Blanc. On the lighter side of gold-colored. The nose is strong on the burnt rubber, of all things. (Perhaps the wine’s corked, but I don’t think so.) It smells like a combination of wet yarn and dirt. That’s not as awful as it sounds, I suppose, but pretty close. The texture is viscous, even oily or waxy, and there’s some nice, spicy oak on the palate. The finish tastes minerally, which gives it some character. The bottom line, though, is that the burnt rubber largely ruins the experience; it wouldn’t be so bad otherwise because this seems like an out-of-the-ordinary, change-of-pace type of wine. ($22)

  • Sauvignon Blanc (Walnut Creek, Ca.): Nose of beeswax, honey, melon, and citrus, more of the same on the palate, light/medium body, tasty, always pleasant and usually consumed in summer but part of the tasting surprise for friends, mouth filling fruit, atypical blended white, like a dry Sauterne, and a medium finish.
