  • Bought 4b for 10/b from Garagiste 12+ years ago; this is #3. Dry, crumbly cork but intact next to the juice. Decanted with heavy sediment for its age. Dark purple; mature black fruits, some black cherry, bit of forest floor; rich, dark fruit with very good mouthfeel; good persistence. Delicious and far exceeded my expectations. Held well throughout the meal. Glad to have another one, would like a few more. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation (see earlier posts for my 4-category, non-point rating system): This is outstanding- when considering quality, age, and price.

  • Soft and delicious. Mild tannin and still nice acidity. Mature, but not past. Held well for the vintage.

  • Clearly over the top but still not dead. Lots of spices, dried plums and tomatoes, coffee, dark chocholate and a not so flattering tin can. Round tannins but still pretty good acidity. Should have consumed this one three-four years ago. No grade since we think the wine is too old.

  • Enjoyed a half bottle at Solo with a bistro steak and frites. Cork crumbly and dry. This poured a murky deep red, with full body and fully resolved, lush tannins on a deep, dark palate of cherry, black licorice, raspberry.

  • shared with pat at selkirk manor. last bottle of this great qpr find. notes similar to last time. the wine continues to hold up well showing better than expected based upon notes from myself as well as others. still fresh and youthful. offers great substance for an entry level wine from this producer. deep garnet color. pleasant nose with lots of cherries. medium weight in the mouth. lingering finish. couldn't ask for more from a chianti at this price point.

(RICASOLI Chianti Classico BROLIO) UPDATE: Jean Bourdy I'm still in the process of writing TNs for the Bourdy event but (in the meantime) my thanks to Joshua Greene of Wine and Sprits for his article on the dinner - he was a delightful guest and truly appreciated the scope and nuance of the event. To read the article, please see: www.wineandspirits.com (it's on the home page at the top - there's a picture of one of the old bottles to click). Enjoy the read - his detailed observation was quite enlightening for all in attendance - - Jon Rimmerman ************************** Chianti Classico Dear Friends, In a tough economy, there are those that make a windfall off the downturn and the wine industry is no different. Unlike your 401k (or should it be renamed a 201k?), it's the consumer that sees the benefit of a wine downturn with some downright bizarre deals from those in need of liquidity. This is one of them. If you are looking for wine to drink on an everyday basis, this is a crazy price on a parcel of wine that has exemplary provenance. Yes, it's 2003 but who cares? It's $9.99? I've said many times that Chianti Classico often tops our customer request list of $10 wine but it has become next to impossible to find at that price level. Once you add importation, taxes, shipping etc the $10 threshold from Italy seems like nearly a thing of the past for red wine. While we do not typically carry Ricasoli, in this case, I have to offer our consumer base a great deal when I see one and this certainly fits the bill. With a suggested retail price of $23-26 and most offering it around $20 this is just a top bargain. I will open this up to 60/person (the maximum they will allow to one customer) to allow for large parties/weddings coming up. This will be in the warehouse shortly so time is not an issue for spring or summer. 2003 Barone Ricasoli Chianti Classico "Brolio" Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy7711
