Poker night wine, pnp and let open in the glass. Cherries and plums plus anise and an earthy tar backbone. Not much in the way of an aged bouquet but definitely not youthful. Still quite tannic but acidity is there too, performs on value rather than style. Last bottle from my cellar, was a great option for Barolo while my younger bottles sleep. See previous notes for evaluations.

Poured a glass and let the rest slow aerate in the bottle as I prepared dinner. I think I finally figured out that full extended decants only serve to remove much of the volatile aromatics from the wine. The best way to approach this one is a period of slow exposure in the bottle so that ultimately it opens up in your glass. That first pour will take a bit to open up- initial notes of sweet black cherry, cola, sarsaparilla, and anise in addition to more savory spices and black pepper as it gets some air. It's still tannic; air will help to soften them somewhat but only time in the cellar can really make the difference. Still a tremendous value IMO at $23 from WTSO. See previous notes.

Corked, just enough to ruin the experience. Still tannic though. But cannot evaluate further.

It's definitely there. Balanced and integrated and very tasty. Was excellent with Northern Italian.

Vastly improved since I last had a bottle in June 2016. Decanted
