  • Chave's Cotes du Rhone Mon Coeur is an all star aggregate from purchased grapes in different appellations and villages, all of which must come of steep hillside vineyards with decomposed granite soil. Many sources have only a few rows and are honored to be a contributing part to a Cote du Rhone marketed around the world, that is arguably the best Rhone red under $20. At 10 years old, this 2008 is starting to become noticeably rounder, smoother, and overtly fruity with blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry, while still having ample acidity and tannin left to age and improve for years more. Postscript: This wine dramatically improved after getting down to the last 2 and 3 inches - richer, lusher, delicious, and seamless. Raised my score.

  • Respi-aerate to decanter. Color dark red/black with maroon edges, medium body. On the nose there is reserved black plum, black olives, charcoal, touches of black licorice, and beef blood. A bouquet that is distinctly dark and brooding, yet still somehow inviting. On the palate we have rich dark plums, black olives, tar, charcoal and a little herb coming through. I like the way that there is a little sweetness from red-toned fruit, such as cherries that percolates from underneath in the medium finish. Acidity seems low-medium, and there are substantial drying tannins throughout. Overall a rustic youthful Mon Coeur that is dominated by syrah but shows a bit of fleshy grenache as well. A decent value for its characteristics, though there are plenty of CdR's that are 12-15 USD, whereas this is now 19.

  • Leather, raspberry and earth on the nose. On the palate leather, dark fruit, spice and a hint beef blood. Cherries on the finish. Interesting. Decanted for two hours and still tightly wound. Slow to open up.

  • 14,5% d'alcool
L'oeil trouble intrigue. Flaveurs éthylique soulignent un malheureux 14,5% d'alcool. Très bon sans être impressionné cette fois-ci. Boire jusqu'en 2013-2014. 87+
