2008 BALLOT-MILLOT MEURSAULT-PERRIERES 1ER CRU- tasted blind; on the heels of a great white Burg, this went a touch further hitting all of the sensory receptors with grace, elegance and class; the nose had some flint and steel and later on minerals showed up in the taste along with fresh green apples with a bit of spice; my first thought was Chablis and then I acquiesced to Meursault and was pleased to discover it was.

A four hands lunch (Joris Bijdendijk x Dan Hunter) (Restaurant Rijks *, Amsterdam, NL): Rich but lively appearance, full yellow with green tinges; lovely matchstick nose, spicy depth, hints of honey and fresh white almond; the very youthful palate marries power and freshness, succulent fruit and minerality, it is mouthfilling but elegant, ripe but energetic, with bold but clean flavours of ripe citrus and oak; complete finish, very good length. More hedonistic in style than e.g. Coche-Dury, but it is certainly ageing very well and for that matter, what's not to like?

Explosive - all the rock, lime and toast tastes in the world fizzing around in the mouth - as exciting as white burgundy gets.

La Paulée de San Francisco - The Verticals (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. I found both this and the 2004 reductive and tough to fairly assess. I think this producer's wines are made in that style, for better or worse.

Precise chardonnay fruit, mouthwatering citrus, the oak spice so perfectly integrated, this was thrilling
