92 pts

  • Not as good as my previous (recent) bottle. This seemed to be much more aged so perhaps some heat exposure. Decanted for several hours. Fruit originally quite pruney and stewed but with air the riper plum notes emerged. A very decadent extracted wine, like an old world version of SQN. Delicious but not for everyone.

  • Perfect cork; decanted 2 hours before. Considerable sediment. Moderate bouquet. Deep garnet; hint of bricking. Mid- to heavy-weight mouthfeel. Fruit dominant; red cherry roll. Generous, possibly overly so. Sensuous and big yet elegant. Handles its 14% alcohol well--not heady or hot. Tannins fully integrated. Gained a bit more taste nuances after c.1hr while remaining a big wine. Likely past its peak (pure youthful power probably best expression), but should be OK for a couple more years. I will decant next bottle for longer (3 hrs?). I prefer certain less concentrated Cote Rotie/CdP wines, but this is an interesting bottle. QPR not great given status of this wine and possibly rarity due to premature disappearance of its maker. Paired with beef, which was OK. Likely better pairing with fowl/game.

  • Exquisite bottle. Big and full of fruit almost cooked (not in a bad way) plums and figs, so much complexity, silky smooth, aromas you can smell all day, a finish that lasts forever. A perfect wine for me. So sad what happened to the winemaker and the subsequent pricing.
