92 pts

Not as good as my previous (recent) bottle. This seemed to be much more aged so perhaps some heat exposure. Decanted for several hours. Fruit originally quite pruney and stewed but with air the riper plum notes emerged. A very decadent extracted wine, like an old world version of SQN. Delicious but not for everyone.

Perfect cork; decanted 2 hours before. Considerable sediment. Moderate bouquet. Deep garnet; hint of bricking. Mid- to heavy-weight mouthfeel. Fruit dominant; red cherry roll. Generous, possibly overly so. Sensuous and big yet elegant. Handles its 14% alcohol well--not heady or hot. Tannins fully integrated. Gained a bit more taste nuances after c.1hr while remaining a big wine. Likely past its peak (pure youthful power probably best expression), but should be OK for a couple more years. I will decant next bottle for longer (3 hrs?). I prefer certain less concentrated Cote Rotie/CdP wines, but this is an interesting bottle. QPR not great given status of this wine and possibly rarity due to premature disappearance of its maker. Paired with beef, which was OK. Likely better pairing with fowl/game.

Exquisite bottle. Big and full of fruit almost cooked (not in a bad way) plums and figs, so much complexity, silky smooth, aromas you can smell all day, a finish that lasts forever. A perfect wine for me. So sad what happened to the winemaker and the subsequent pricing.

Pleasantly surprised. Deep garnet. The monster tannins have largely resolved, not disappeared. Full cherry, dark plum, garrigue nose. Palate adds spice, black pepper and hints of sweetness. Big, long finish. Happy to have more bottles to enjoy going forward.

3rd of 3 bottles. Loved it, big and bold yet somehow exacting and satisfying. Stewed red fruits, cherry and plum compote, tar, licorice, wet soil. The structure is very good, showing medium body and refined tannins, alongside quite nice acidity, giving a refreshing lift to this bold-ish wine. Drink now through 2022 or so, lovely and at peak.

I must say this was a huge surprise. Quite an astounding wine. A wine of power and intensity, but not excessive or pompous. And drunk at a perfect point in its evolution. Big figgy nose, reminiscent of carob, treacle, molasses, but with vibrant fresh fruit in the middle, so still that exciting tension between youth and age, wisdom and vigour. Thick and dense, but lively and tense. Lots of brambly forest fruit, spiciness and acidity from the Syrah, and nice creamy sweetness from the Mourvedre. Long and generous and lip-smacking jammy smoky finish. Super! The Cabernet is less obvious, but it should give it long life. Not as tannic as I feared. A great wine.

Not as good as I remember. This bottle was purchased "used" so it may have not been stored as well as it should have been. I found it to be excessively sweet, much more so than the last time I had this wine.
Day 2 and it's clear this bottle was flawed/corked. Dumped the rest and will hope for the best when I open my next bottle.

Dieser Wein ist sehr speziell. Ich kenne nichts was dem ähnelt. Hoher Wiedererkennungswert! Anfangs noch etwas portig! Ich hatte schon Angst! Gedanken an viele überreife Ch9 kamen hoch! Wirklich toll!! Besonders! Ich wünschte ich hätte mehr!! Jetzt und die nächsten 3-5 Jahre trtrinken!!!

I really wanted to like this wine, and I wasn't disappointed! This is the first Vin de Pays de l'Hérault I've ever had and I really liked it. It had a very smooth mouthfeel and the tannins were in perfect balance. I poured the wine immediately which was a mistake - give it an hour of air before drinking. This bottle cost me just under $100 USD which is a bit expensive all things considered. But it was exciting to try a wine from a region that doesn't get much attention in the US. I will buy more of this wine.
A big and bold wine. Resembling a big Chateauneuf of the more refined breed. Beautiful and at least 5 years to go without losing energy. But very, very good right now.

Bottle #2 of 3. Beautifully complete wine. Opened about 5 days ago, had a few glasses then tasting the remaining wine today. Amazing how it is still going strong. Stewed tomatoes, road tar, cinnamon, anise, blackberry, red cherry. The wine has gorgeous acidity, and nice length on the finish. Drink now through 2022+.

This bottle did suffer from the 2007-syndrome having less grip and life than other vintages. Completely dominated by plum it had insufficient acidity and grip for my taste. On the second day more balanced and I will let any remaining bottles cellar 3-4 years more. No signs of fatigue at all.

Huge and accessible wine with complex expressions of dark fruit. Still good acidity. Fresh impressions. There is a slight - but in mouth noticeable - askew aftertaste in the nose which does not appear in the mouth. Can be kept but why not drink it now.

Il me semble encore jeune. 92 (+?) pts

Best wine so far this winter... Hedonistic with ripe plum and cassis coming out of the glass. It is juicy and vibrant and mineral, complex and deep. Integrated tannins and acidic lift at the end. The Cabernet was at the front this evening.

TOUR DE FRANCE: Verdure bollite, candito, dolcioso e glicerico. Buonissimo

This wine somehow rides the line between huge, bold fruit and laser-balanced acidity. The wine is burly yet reeled-in, all at the same time. Notes range from plum and cassis, to tar and smoke, giving way to complexity and depth. Beautifully integrated med intensity tannins are in a perfect state of maturity, and will hold this wine in this window through 2024 or so.

(at The Modern – NYC) A fun, fruit filled wine that shows its southern France heritage. There is a wildness to the fruit, yet a refinement to the palate. I like this wine a lot – a change of pace, yet serious. (93)

others might rate this higher as it had a big rich vanillin nose and palate we dense and rich too, but this was too heavy for my tastes, flavors were classic mourvedre and in size, good acid, can't complain in a textbook fashion but a little heavy / anti-elegant for me, expectations were probably too high as i had recently had the 2005 which was to die for

93+ pts

Expressive bouquet with ripe red as well as black forest fruits, good spiciness and a touch of pleasant barnyard. Same on the palate. The fruits are very ripe. There is a lot of sweetness, but also good acidity to make the wine elegant. Firm amount of oak and good tannin. Already a great pleasure, but it will definitely improve with another 5+ years of ageing.

Game and Rhone Tasting @ Peggy's (Villa Reynart, Opoeteren): Opens with a very rustic and barnyard-ey nose, but underneath all those savage elements you can find beautiful layers of black fruit, cappuccino and milk chocolate. Wonderful wine, lots of depth and complexity. Okay, it's modern-styled, very powerful, sweet and pretty high in alcohol, but very, very good. 18/20

If you want to experience something close to a little paradise I can only advise to drink this wine in Corsica overlooking the straight of Bonifacio, Sardegna and La Madelena. It was just great. Dark color, a definite mulberry taste, no acidity, no bitterness and despite the youth the tannins were totally melted and this was close to velvet. A great wine for a great occasion.

This is a pretty good wine, although the price pegs it at the level of upper-end CDP and I don't really see that. Very smooth and balanced, richly flavored grenache with the acidity to offer balance and just a hint of surmaturite. Nose isn't terribly expressive yet but showing hints of spice to come, with leather and toasty oak aromas. In the mouth the wine has the structure and minerality to balance the fruit and shows considerable length, but is somehow a bit lighter than I expected. At peak (probably on the early side: maybe around 2013?) should merit more like 94 pts

Huge and accessible wine with complex expressions of dark fruit. Still good acidity. Fresh impressions.
There is a slight - but in mouth noticeable - askew aftertaste in the nose which does not appear in the mouth.
Can be kept but why not drink it now.

Very aromatic with very ripe fruits on the nose, almost some port notes.
The mouth is more balanced, with a smooth texture, fine tannins and a very good balance.

Il me semble encore jeune. 92 (+?) pts

very dark color. Cherries, blackberries, green and some black pepper, leather. Almost sweet taste. Very round and supple. From now until 2024. Very easy to spot the 3 grape components (S, M, C.S)

Best wine so far this winter... Hedonistic with ripe plum and cassis coming out of the glass. It is juicy and vibrant and mineral, complex and deep. Integrated tannins and acidic lift at the end. The Cabernet was at the front this evening.

Found it much more edonistic than other comments. Event a hint of sugar ! Still, this is very good.

Powerful stuff. Dense mineral and garrigue flavours are to the fore with sweet dark fruit right behind. I am looking forward to seeing this develop in the years to come.

others might rate this higher as it had a big rich vanillin nose and palate we dense and rich too, but this was too heavy for my tastes, flavors were classic mourvedre and in size, good acid, can't complain in a textbook fashion but a little heavy / anti-elegant for me, expectations were probably too high as i had recently had the 2005 which was to die for

93+ pts

Another in a night of pretty rotten surprises. This bottle is flat and rather nasty: bitter, hot, with a cooked aroma. We'll assume it was exposed to heat somewhere and write it off as (another) loss...

We had this after the '89 Beychevelle and it was rather clumsy in comparison. Much simpler given its age and fruit-forward. Still, this should age rather well.
