  • Dark fruit with licorice, earth, herbs, sandalwood, black fruit and pepper. Balanced on the palate with a medium plus finish. Showed the cool vintage character. Not showing too much of that typical grenache sweetness. A bit savoury.

  • Served double blind. Brief note. Nose and palate show espresso powder, dark bittersweet chocolate, dried strawberry, pepper and dried herbs. With enough time in the glass this opened up beautifully showing pink rosy florals, musk, sandlewood, violets and lavender with a touch of heat and prunes on the backend. This was quite rich and deep and not as muddied or murky as I find CdP to be. There was good definition to all aspects of this and it was more than I could ask for. Very nice.

  • Rich, broad, sweet, the old master speaks, la Crau speaks, and speaks louder than the cool 1999-vintage; this is old school neuf with all the fixers, spice, garrigue, Grenache galore. I do no see this getting better, bit no signs of fatigue, though.

  • Pleasant but lacking some complexity and depth. I wouldn't hold these much longer on this evidence.

  • Food: Northern Chinese
    Duration: 3 hours
    Condition: Perfect
Aroma: pepper, spices, dark fruits, licorice, smoke
Note: very strong aroma of dark fruits and pepper. cndp is typically very difficult to predict the best drinking time as well as preparation time. At first I thought this wine showed some signs of aging but afrer 2 hours I tend to think that there could be more time given to this wine. Drink 2017+.
