  • Cellar discovery. Plush, softy and generously fruited, very varietal with gamey berries, herbs and long powdery tannin. In absolutely wonderful condition at 19yrs of age and at the top of its game.

  • Still showing lots of life for a 17yr old. Plenty of acid driving the palate and indeed takes the edge off the fruit. Classic cab fruits with herb and green fruit underlays. Long acid and tannin finish. Has a long way to go.

  • {cork, 13%} Soft leathery old red; typical aged cedary/leathery cabernet with a touch of central Victoiran eucalypt. The palate has some aged and gentle sweet fruit of dark character; but the ultra-fine tannins are quite astringent now and suggest this is better drunk sooner than later. Solid.

  • Very hard to argue with spending $27 on winery cellared cabernet with 14 years of age. Very freh and lively, not that I'd expect much less from Tahbilk. Ripe berries and chocolate but this is not dumb and simple. Some mature pongy notes in the back palate seem at odds with the freshness but this not a bad thing. A complete wine just over middle age. Drink to 2014.

  • {cork, 13%, A$25} Garnet, with a rather aged look. Aging nose of basil & herbs, ripe curranty aromas, and a liquorice/velvety waft floating above it all. Very satisfactory; new world, but in an understated way. The palate is aged, with slightly gritty, but fine tannins, just a smidgin of a mid-palate hole, and a medium-bodied, decently sophisticated finish. A clear cut above the regular cabernet release and a good buy for the money.
