  • Pale yellow color. Apples, citrus and hints of spice, honey and minerals in the nose. Peach, citrus, pears and a hint of red cherries in the flavor. Well balanced, nice acidity, medium bodied and a long finish. A very nice pairing with ham and bean soup.

  • Method: pop and pour; white wine glass; cork about 1/3 soaked (maybe minor seepage at one time)

    Look: medium straw

Nose: Meyer lemon, river rock, light fresh ginger, light white peach, jasmine; not super expressive

Palate: white peach, yellow peach, ginger; medium finish of minerality and parsley; medium sweetness; medium- body; medium acidity

Overall thoughts: Tasty and sufficiently balanced. In general, this is a very good wine, but pretty average for a Riesling Spatlese.

  • Cork was leaking pretty good. So this bottle is likely a little off.

    Color. Pale yellow.

Nose. Light petrol and flint. Green apple, lime, mint, and a little clove.

Palate. Enveloping mouth feel. Weighty and medium bodied. Green apple and a mild lime flavor.

  • Drank at home.
The soil of the grosse lage Badstube consists of grey-blue slate with clay content. Loam is partly also present and the soil texture varies from rocky and coarse to fine grained. It covers the middle of the slope along the Mosel. The vineyard rises from 110 to 250m at a steep 40-65% incline and faces southwest to south. Many of the vines were planted around 1950 and are over 70yo.

The wine shows a beautiful bright yellow/green colour.
The wine shows medium intensity in the nose, offering ripe yellow apple, pear, lime, pineapple and an ethereal underlying earthy nuance.
Gorgeous in the palate with mouthwatering acidity, higher (than the nose) intensity of flavors. The fruit shows greener hues, more on the lemon, quince, apple side. With more time in the glass, you can find overripe/tinned peach and nectarine notes emerging too.
Delicate and elegant , there is a bit of effervescence here that works really well in the overall balance with the sweetness. Ends with a long electrifying finish.
Outstanding quality. And yes, it is lacking Sonnenuhr's depth and complexity, but who cares ??
