  • Still very young and sweet, but this is coming along nicely. The nose had nice drifts of white flowers, white peach and mineral. The palate was nice and crisp, very Saar, with juicy lemony acidity running through chewy notes of sweet white peach and nectarines and then a crunch of green apples, all deeply lined with a nice minerality. Still praying and sweet, but nicely structured and food friendly. This was a solid wine that will age very nicely.

  • Oh my gosh good today; but I think that is partly my mood. It tastes great, with nice acidity, layered spicy Riesling-ness, and a light sweetness. Don't be thrown off by the sweetness, the acidity balances it. Lovely.

  • Classic stylings though, without petrol, firm coconut, some lemon, good character. I do like, just not a block buster. One that will grow on you, classic riesling in a way. Yummy.

  • Schäfer-Fröhlich Tasting + Some Extras (Beautiful Wines, The Plaza): Very pleasant, but nothing special. I must say that it certainly had a lovely bouquet, with a whole range of high-toned fruit accents - green apples, zesty lime, ripe guava and gooseberry, all underpinned by a little herby asparagus note. Quite Saar-like I thought. The palate really flattered to deceive on the attack as well, with green apples galore wed to delciously snappy ripe grapefruit flavours all showing quite a bit of richness and weight. Unfortunately, the wine just seemed to run out of energy at the mid-palate and petered out into rather hollow finish which dissipated quickly (albeit rather prettily) with a whiff of orange blossoms. A nice enough wine, but there are tons of better 2009 Spatlesen out there.

  • Beautiful aromatics, full of incredibly fresh pear, guava and green apple flavours tinged with herbal flavours. Very elegant and precise in the mouth with clear, fresh green fruited flavours over vivid slatey minerality and a nice acid backbone, only quibble is that this finishes a bit short.
