Pale in the glass with long lasting bubbles. The nose has notes of green apple, brioche, yeast, and a touch of a nutty oxidative character. On the palate the wine is fresh with fine bubbles, a great mouthfeel, and good followthrough from the nose, with the addition of some light citrus like lemon. Brut, so a touch of sweetness balanced well by the acidity. Great entry-level champagne.

Maybe I'm overrating this, but I want to give it an extra point for the QPR- it's routinely $40-$45 and really feels like fantastic Champagne, incredibly expressive, forward, and sufficiently complex for what it is. I really got a big burst of white cherry and fuji apple on the nose with touches of pie crust, plus a very subtle sort of creamy yogurt-like tone. Palate has fantastic energy, crisp and dense. I agree with others that the dosage could be on the slightly high side, but I don't have enough champagne experience to really say. It lacks a bit of savory complexity and/or precision compared to some other champagnes I've tried, but has to be one of the best QPR examples of the region I've found so far, and I'd compare it to several others closer to $60.

(NV MOUTARD Grande Cuvee Brut) Weekend/Champagne Dear Friends, A few weekend wines of note – all will arrive in a few days – please check OARS for pick up after April 1st. Have a great weekend everyone – - Jon Rimmerman *************************************** NV Moutard Champagne Brut “Grande Cuvee” 750ml - There are palates in Champagne that believe this is the single finest NV example in the range. That is quite subjective but there’s no doubt Moutard is trying to over-deliver with the Grande Cuvee. If you’re looking for a no-fuss example to enjoy ice cold this summer, this contender for best price/value wine in Champagne would be a welcome addition to your picnic or afternoon on the Sunday terrace. Compare at up to $40+: 2007 Georges Descombes Morgon - (This is not Duboeuf “Jean Descombes” Morgon – compare at $15-20+) This exceedingly complex wine is proof-positive that Burgundy need not cost a fortune to entice. Granted, this is Gamay Noir (not Pinot Noir), but the layers of delicate nuance and minerality are admirable. A steal of a deal – if we run out Wine Library has a parcel at $14.99-15.99: 2007 Filliatreau Saumur-Champigny “La Grande Vignolle” - If you have the patience to wait another year or so, this eccentric and intellectual example of Cabernet Franc has already started to evolve and it should emerge as something very interesting indeed. If you read the verbiage below, you will understand... Wonderful Champagne, and at a great price point. 100% Pinot Noir. Some nice brioche notes and nutty qualities showing off its age. Drink up this year!

Good, not as much bread as I was looking for. Maybe at this price point, a Cremant is a better choice.

From a half bottle. Big, bold, unrefined, and a strange sweetness.
