  • I bought this magnum about 2 years ago at auction here in Paris for about €38 which felt like a fair price. I typically like this label, and I was keen to see what an aged version in large format would look like. I have to say I was not disappointed. There was a good degree of freshness still, with red and dark fruits, but also some lovely developed characters of earth and dried flowers. Enough acidity remains to keep the palate on track, and there are no off characters from the ageing, despite unknown provenance before my purchase and then spending two years sitting in a cupboard before I got around to opening it. Really enjoyable wine and great value. 91-92pts

  • Solid, dense, color. Still with a slightly purple rim going towards crimson. Rather un-Morgon as many noted below. First impression: lively, this is not over the hill at all. That's also confirmed by the first sip. Nice sandy tanins and stable length. Holds together nicely in the mouth. On the nose hints of laquer and minerality. Fairly complex and wide open. Paired with a tartar. Nice combo.

Second day: even more dimensions (roses, iron) and complexity. A few more bottles left in the cellar No hurry. But it won't probably develop more either. At 18 euros this was great QPR.

  • Dark red, rather dense for a Gamay. Red berries, mineral, smoke, still fairly fruity. Structured, w good sandy tannins, high acidity, red fruit. Aftertaste w white pepper, some saltiness, but fading quickly. Probably at its peak now. Good value for money, but not really a typical Beaujolais.

  • Less interesting this time. A bit four-square and still hard after decanting. Deep fruit, still ripe but developing, with firm acidity and integrated tannic structure, but no real joy - closed in on itself, as it were. Drinkable but no real fun.

  • Benefitted from 2 hours decanting. Initially, a bright, relatively intense fresh juicy nose: very attractive. Opening up on the palate (was very tight and closed upon release) - fresh berried fruit, mineral backbone, crisp finish. Quite lovely, well-knit and firmly structured. Got silkier, more harmonious and seductive after 2 hours.

(Louis Jadot Morgon Château des Jacques) Very dark red violet color; charcoal, smoke, roasted herbs nose; tight, tart currant, mineral, smoke, charcoal palate, needs 2-plus finish; medium-plus finish
