  • I hardly know anything about spirits, let alone rum. The only point of reference I have in this field is the standard white Bacardi, which is very, very basic as even I know. My lack of knowledge is the reason I won’t give a rating and just limit myself to describing my experience with this rum.
This 7 year Havana Club is light-years away from the standard white Bacardi. It reminds me of a brandy/cognac. It could be sipped on its own, although I personally used it for long drinks (mostly with ginger ale, but it works with cola, too). It’s reasonably priced in my view (between 23 to 26 Euros in Germany). And for that one gets a lot of rum. I can recommend it to anyone as quality dark rum for mixing. I would definitely buy it again.

  • Light copper colored
Lots of burnt sugar and molasses off the nose, all spice, banana bread
Hot to the lips but relatively smooth with a medium plus belly burn and a long finish. Tastes much like the nose with a hint of eucalyptus on the back end.
Very good value rum. I use it for mixing but it can be sipped, preferably out of a flask outside on a cold stormy night.

  • It probably wasn't a fair comparison having first finished off a fine bottle of Ron Zacapa Centenario "Sistema Solera" 23 Gran Reserva rum ... but I find the Havana Club Añejo 7 Años is not really a great sipping rum - best served as a mixer in Rum & Coke. It seem sacrilegious to 'mix' a nicer rum but it makes a huge positive difference. Try a cheaper Barcardi first, then next drink use the Havana Club 7 - it's a truly great Rum & Coke.

  • WSET Level 4 Course - WSET School; 9/6/2014-5/23/2015 (WSET School, Bermondsey): Appearance: This is clear with a medium amber colour.
Nose: The nose is clean showing pronounced intensity aromas of molasses, treacle, syrup, toffee, sweetness, oak. This is matured.
Palate: This is dry in the mouth with warming alcohol. It has a medium body and medium intensity flavours of molasses, treacle, syrup, toffee, sweetness, oak. The finish is medium and some complexity.
Conclusion: It is a good quality spirit. It has some complexity, a reasonable length finish, alcohol sticks out a bit. Standard Price (£17.99)

  • This rum is awesome (especially for the price!). Perfect blend of oak and vanilla; completely smooth. Best over some ice, but makes great cocktails as well. My go-to dark rum. I wish it was available in the States.
