  • Solid, and a bit weightier with oak than some of the newer vintages.

  • Good medium priced value in a Cal chardonnay. Well-made. Good balance. Crisp with hints of butter and oak.

  • Nose of oak and butterscotch. Pleasant flavors of oak and butterscotch. Medium bodied and decently balanced. Missing some fruit and layers of taste. Long finish of oak and acid that hung around with some heat. The finish worked very well with the seafood gumbo and salad that was for dinner.

  • Delicious. Eaten with homemade paella. I'll spare you the flowery descriptions.

    Per www.macrostiewinery.com:
ORIGIN: from several prime vineyards on both the Sonoma and Napa sides of Carneros, including Sangiacomo, Beresini, Beckstoffer, McCall, Thornton, Hi Vista, and Mitsuko’s vineyard. Our own Wildcat Mountain Estate Vineyard, high up in the hills on the extreme western edge of the Carneros AVA, played a significant role in the blend as well.

VINEYARD NOTES: Yields were moderate, averaging three to four tons per acre, although Wildcat was a bit lower. The growing season was odd, with an unusually cool and foggy summer bracketed by heat spikes in May and September. These led to an early and very compacted crush. The grapes were harvested by hand from August 30 through September 17. The clusters arrived at the winery extremely ripe and in great condition.

WINEMAKING NOTES: The grapes went direct to press as whole clusters in order to maximize quality, and gently pressed. After settling, the clear juice was racked to French and Hungarian barrels for fermentation, 20% of which were new. Once dry and finished with ML, the new wine was barrel-aged on the lees for six months, with minimal stirring. Blending was done just prior to bottling. The wine was bottled June 1 through 14, 2005.

TASTING NOTES: Classic pale straw in color, the wine exhibits aromas of fresh cut pineapple and ripe pear, with hints of vanilla and allspice. In the mouth it is rich and full, juicy like mom’s apple pie, but crisply structured with a long, clean, refreshing finish.

This vintage produced about 18,000 cases.
