From 75cl, dry cork disintegrated into dust on decanting, served immediately but alas did not improve in glass. Unlike the other bottle of this wine opened tonight, this wasn't evidently faulty, so I'll rate it. Ripe cherry liqueur scent; slightly too sweet on the entry; the dark-fruited mid-palate has some interesting iron filings and earthy action; tannic gain to the dry, slightly crabby finish, with perhaps just a hint of the taint dominant in the previous bottle(?) Otherwise it could be practically any PN or indeed a light Grenache, from anywhere. Australia, perhaps? There is no excuse for a bottle of wine at this price level (65 EUR on release in 2011) from one of the great historic appellations for long-lived French red wine, never moved since purchase and stored under ideal conditions, tasting this tired and ancient at age 14. 85P

From 75cl, optically perfect cork, decanted off powdery sediment. At cellar temperature the cork taint wasn't overpowering, but as soon as it started warming up, wet cardboard TCA overwhelmed whatever positive characteristics this 65 EUR con artist (2011 release price) might have had to offer. A disgrace, and—for me—another nail in the coffin of red Burgundy.

Burgundy in Burgundy - the good, the bad and the truly revolting; 9/13/2010-9/20/2010: From barrel. Like the Corton Le Rognet ("black cherry scent with a hint of cassis. Deep, strong, sweet, velvety tannins on palate and a long finish") but with a touch of liquorice and more closed. May be the better wine once bottled, but my money is on the Le Rognet today. 89P(++)

Barrel Tasting at Camille Giroud (Beaune): Barrel tasting at Domaine. Dense fruit on nose and palate. Good pepper and spice, fair amount of it from oak that is fairly prominent today. Powerful and serious wine, more concentrated and serious than the Rognets, but less alluring.

Fine Vines Fall 2015 Portfolio Tasting (City Winery - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Very ripe black fruit aromas to start with savory spice and black pepper. More structured, firm palate particularly on finish. Good 91+ point potential 5-10+ years out.
