  From 75cl, perfect cork, quick decant off scaly/powdery sediment, best about 45 minutes thereafter. Healthy pale maturing Burgundy colour without orange-brown warning signs. Initially herbal/eucalyptus/ethereal oil notes dominate the nose, but after 1 hour there is some additional attractive clove action. Medium-bodied, sweetish entry, with gentle acid balance, restrained dark-to-black cherry fruit and no tannins discernable. Moreish. Not exactly a bargain at the 94 EUR paid back in 2011, but such a relief finally to enjoy an intact bottle of a 2009 Grand Cru from Camille Giroud, after two disastrous Cortons last week, two faulty Charmes Chambertins less recently, and an insipidly weak bottle of this Latricières in February 2022. Fortunately, this bottle was in a good drinking window, and I just hope the rest of the case turns out to be in similarly acceptable condition. 90-91P

  From 75cl, perfect cork. On opening this smelled and tasted of boiled sweets, but 2 hours later and after a quick decant for powdery sediment it started showing better. Medium-to-big-bodied, sweet black cherry fruit, pleasant in its way but very straightforward: an uncomplicated, clean PN with relatively low acidity. Frankly, this tastes like it could have come from anywhere. All in all disappontingly insipid, and alarmingly uninteresting for a wine for which I paid nearly 100 EUR on release. No tannins left, but another 5 bottles left to go. Will further time work wonders? Unless a miracle happens, I can't see this edging much higher than (87–)88P. But WA did give a drinking window until 2039, so perhaps there'll be a radical transformation sometime next decade.

  Generous fruit on the nose, quite open and layered, mixed with earthy, smoky notes, spices. On the palate again lots of ripe fruit, powerful, but round tannins, well integrated acidity and a lingering, persistent finish. Excellent - drink or (better) keep. 93-95

  Westchester Wine School Premium Burgundy Tasting (Mamaroneck, NY): Drank at WWS tasting blind vs. Jadot Charmes Chambertin 02. Pale red color, showing far more age at edges than expected. Lovely nose of dark fruit & spice. Very potent up front: blackberries, spice with wonderful mouthfeel. Nicely balanced with appropriate acidity level, ripe fruit and good length. A classically styled burg, if a bit young. Many good times ahead for this wine which, though still an infant, showed exceedingly well.
  The Jadot Charmes had a deep ruby color, a musty nose that smelled of dirty socks--though its funkiness faded over time in the glass. (On color and nose alone, I mistook this wine for the 2009). Rich and powerful, with loads of ripe fruit, but by no means over the top. More tannic than the Giroud, and a bit more funky, and great length. This wine too I felt still needs a bit more time to develop. I also enjoyed this wine, though perhaps not quite to the same level as the Giroud. Still both were impressive wines and my #2 & #3 red WOTN

  The Verticals at La Paulee de San Francisco (Westin St. Francis - San Francisco CA): I like this wine's long-term potential. Rich black fruit on nose and palate, but the structure is more front-and-center today. The potential is most clear on the long, powerful and meaty finish.
