Mature black fruit that comes across slightly under-ripe, but just the most faint hints of any stereotypical 2004 green bitterness. Some intriguing mushroom and animale character. However, if tasted blind I'd have thought this considerably more than ten years old.

Tasting at Maison Camille Giroud...Barrel and Library (Beaune): Tasting at domaine. Popped and poured. Mature black fruit with just trace hints of any underripe or otherwise green notes. Good flavors, but there is limited upside potential from here.

Was bit chary about this, but it turned out to be a very pleasant wine indeed. Upon opening it was a bit harsh; after two hours it settled down and became an example of the better sort of wine from this difficult vintage. Nose was a bit light, but pleasant. Color was medium, body a bit on the light side. Everything was nicely integrated, with adequate fruit, and no taint or green notes that I could detect. Very silky and smooth, almost elegant wine. Lacks the power that better vintages might show, but nothing wrong with this at all. If you can pick this up on the cheap, its well worth trying. Seems to be at its peak, I wouldn't hold this much longer.

Decanted 30 minutes before serving. Robust black fruit aromas with modest woodsy spice, then some background green elements. That tricky 2004 character comes across a bit more prominently on the palate, with some slightly bitter traces behind the fairly firm black cherry and blackberry flavors.
