  • Gold coloured, medium intensity, a lot of small bubbles. Developed, medium intensity nose. Bread and fruit. On the palate dry, high acidity, medium body with foamy effervescence. Clean and fresch. Brioche, red winter apples, minerality. Rather short finish. Very nice, just wished for a bit longer aftertaste.

From back label: 100% pinot noir. Vintage 2012, bottled May 2013, deg Oct 2018. Dos 2 g/l.
Vines planted in 1983, parcelle Les Bauchets, south-east, mi-coteaux. Sandy, argilo-calcaire soil. Slow fermentation, "FML non recherchée". Not fined or filtrated.

  • 100% Pinot Noir disgorged October 2018 with 2 gms dosage. My final bottle of the pair I bought back in 2020. The first bottle of the two was in 2021 and it left a very positive impression and so I had held the remaining bottle for the right occasion. We had that yesterday, with a small grower event we did in the backyard. I thought this Bauchets stood in there well with Egly, Agrapart, etc. It has a a fresh kind of piercing expression, a clean minerality yet there is a red fruit woven through the wine that when married together, it drinks excellent. I'm convinced now that it's worth sourcing more of this and seeing if some of the newer releases of Bauchets, even Tuilerie (which I have haad a few times also now).

  • Good energy, good concentration. Kept getting better and better with the last sips the best. Fun to share it with Sam over some excellent sushi at Taiko.

  • BdN from the lieux-fit of Les Bauchets. 1215 bottles made. Disgorged 18 October 2020 (I believe). Distinctly Pinot noir in the fruit profile. Very savory champagne, long finish. I preferred the La Tuilerie BdB to my taste, but this is well built.

Ausgezeichnete Harmonie. 94 vvPunkte vvWine.ch

  • Opened yesterday, we enjoyed most of it but a little left today for this note. First time with the producer, I had bought a few each of the parcel wines to try. This is the first bottle of the Bauchets I have opened. 100% Pinot Noir, about 1200 bottles, disgorged October 2018 with 2 grams of dosage. This is dynamite stuff. Zesty, with apple, lime, saline and some berry. Finishes with the same zesty tone, plenty of energy and citrus. This is a concentrated, intense interpretation of Champagne that I really enjoy. And for what it's worth, even with the light dosage here, don't interpret this as lean nor austere, as it's not. Plenty of fruit expression here, which makes the wine even better.

  • DG 10/2018
We were a little bit disappointed with this one; it was somehow austere and herbal/vegetable-like for such a generally concentrated, generous and rich vintage. Very tight with lots of wet stones, chalk, very mineral; very fresh oysters, sea water; cranberries, blackcurrants, fresh lemons, not very ripe peaches; white flowers, fennel, white pepper, green tea, a hint of smoke on the finish.
High acidity and a not very dense texture; we like this producer but we found this wine not very enjoyable, maybe a bad decision during the harvest this year, I don't know but the wine feels quite green.

  • 100% 2012 Pinot Noir from La Vallée de la Marne. No MLF, bottled in May 2013 and disgorged in January 2018. 12% alcohol, dosage 2 g/l. Bottle #1090 of total 1215 bottles. Tasted blind.

Medium-deep lemon yellow color. Lean, green and borderline unripe nose with aromas of tart Granny Smith apple, some leafy vegetal tones, a little bit of pithy lemon and a hint of yeast. The wine feels somewhat dull and green-toned on the palate with slightly unclean flavors of leafy vegetal tones, some pea soup, a little bit of tart green apples, a hint of canned asparagus and a touch of chalky minerality. The mousse feels ample, smooth and creamy, but also rather short-lived, making the mouthfeel turn quite flat rather fast. Modest-to-medium in acidity. The finish is lively, long and somewhat vegetal with green-toned flavors of asparagus, some cooked broccoli, a little bit of tart green apples, a hint of chalky minerality and a touch of key lime.

An unpleasant and noticeably green Champagne with lots of vegetal and somewhat unripe flavors of asparagus and broccoli. It's surprising how green-toned the wine can be if 2012 was supposed to be a relatively warm vintage, resulting in most wines achieving perfect ripeness. Contrasting the green character of the wine, however, the acidity feels remarkably low. All in all an unpleasant effort and I doubt the wine will get any better from here - unless this was an off bottle, not representing the usual style. If I ever get to taste this wine again, I might need to amend the score accordingly, but we'll keep this for now.
