  • Still good with three-hour decant, lost much of its body, on the decline. But still an exceptional wine.

  • This is a thoroughly lovely bottle of 1995 Chevillon found deep in the cellar. The colour was surprisingly cherry red and the palate was fresh with plenty of dark cherry, wild strawberry, rose and some Asian spice and earth. The palate was medium weight with a lovely spherical sense of fruit and proportion - it glided over the palate and left a gentle yet long impression. Lovely stuff !

  • French and Italians at Bardo (Bardo, Mpls, MN): Murky medium dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour. A funky, damp, earthy nose with a bit of wet dog and saturated red fruits. The palate is also earthy, some tasty dank saturated red berries, sour berry, great mineral denisty and good depth. I found this more engaging than Craig tinight. Agree, not great, but darn good for me.

  • Jimmy's bottle tonight and PnP. I certainly enjoyed this tonight but, it didn't rock me. Fully resolved with mature notes and classic NSG character. Can't put my finger on why. Not transcendent like it could have been. I guess I was expecting more at age 23. My expectations or taste buds might have been off tonight for this wine.

  • Terrific showing. Some fall leaves, barnyardy funk on the nose. Secondary aromas. The fruit is still bright red, with hints of iron and cool mint. There's a refreshing youthfulness and coolness to fruit. There some initial tightness, after 30 minutes in the decanter the wine really fleshes out and leaves a really beautiful mix fruit, earth, and really tasty texture. Very good '95 in a nice spot.

  • I brought this to Etta's for dinner with Suzi (mini-crabcakes followed by the spice-rubbed salmon & cornbread pudding). On opening it was dark, brooding and tannic unlike almost any Pinot I have ever tasted. A bit of barnyard seems evident. At first it showed loads of tannin and acid, but the fruit was hiding. With time in the glass (NOTE: Etta's has *really* crappy restaurant glasses. Will Tom Douglas restaurants drive me to BYO glasses?) it starts to open up and expand, lengthening on the palate. Finally by the time the salmon entrees arrived we were dealing with pure MAGIC! The acid gets along SOOOO well with the fat of the salmon, the finish showing power and grace. Deep cherry, powerful and intense on the palate yet very smooth.

One troubing sign is that the finish seemed to tighten up by the end of the meal, but I also think that had to do with a clash with the sweet creme brulee dessert. Gorgeous bottle!
