This 21 years old bottle is dark red, smooth and going down hill. Drink it ASAP is my recommendation.

Particularly Piemonte (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alba) and Umbria (Montefalco) wines would surpise you after the time they need - typically 15-20 years for the former, 10-15 for the latter. The charming and increasingly complex wines in the south (Primitivo, Nero d'Avola etc) can provide pleasure well before.
