Just opened up my second bottle of this wine, which was fantastic a couple of years ago. Sadly, it's on the downward slide now and was nowhere near as good as the previous bottle. If you have any, I suggest drinking up now.

A less pungent than expected nose of apricot, cashews some lees and cedar oak. The palate is where this wine shines, with a luscious, creamy mouthfeel balanced by perfect acidity. Flavours of apricot, toast, butter, brioche and biscuit coat the mouth leaving a very long and complex finish lingering long after the wine is swallowed. If you have any more bottles of this you can leave them for at least another 5 years with absolute confidence.

In my opinion, the variety that Arizona does best, is Sangiovese. Maynard's work under the Caduceus label is no exception. This wine was fantastic and really encapsulated the Arizona terroir. Clear, medium, ruby coloured with red fruits such as raspberry and red cherry on the nose with plums, some meatiness, blood and violets on the palate. Medium plus to high acidity, with very fine, well integrated tannins. This is drinking beautifully right now. Was matched with pizza and would match any good pasta dish with red sauce.
