  • Nice deep rich dark fruits on the nose. Consumed over two nights, just drink and pour on the first night. Very enjoyable with not much difference between the two nights. Not very complex, but a nice blend of fruit, gentle tannins, and spice. Food friendly with pizza on night one and cod on night two, plus snacks.

  • Light brown hue on the rim, nose of….baseball glove, barnyard and raisin. Tobacco, earth, leather, subtle red fruit. Medium acid and long legs. Decanted 1 hour. Perhaps my expectations were too high?

  • Some barnyard yeast on the nose. Wife thought it was corked but the I thought the taste was great. Admittedly the nose was clouded by the brett…but otherwise, the wine was a great drink. Leathery soft cherries.

  • A big whiff of .. and hear me out here.. marinara sauce hits me. And no I'm not around food right now.
I had to step back and try again several minutes later and still marinara sauce is what hits me first.
It fades away to the more typical notes one would expect such as strawberry.

On the taste this is still coming off as a younger brunello. Some tannin presence but not overwhelming. The finish doesn't linger and has a earthy undertone to it.

Overall a good wine and worth the price to me. But perhaps I had my expectations set too high due to the prestige of the Fuligini name.

But the 2014 vintage report for Brunello was a gloomy one so in that sense this wine came out ahead.

  • Austere, thin and out of balance. Difficult vintage is showing lack of fruit concentration. There is quality from winemaking (oak ageing) but in the glass seems disjointed (overpowering Malo notes). High drying tannins, medium finish. Drink now.
