  • Sometimes California chardonnay surprises me with how good it is. This is one of those times. Deep, subtle lemon smell along with a bed of white summer flowers. I moved it to a cabernet glass to get more air and more smell because it’s just lovely. A little bit of salt spray and marble. In the mouth an explosion of flavor. Lemon confit - big flavors but not too sharp or intense. A tiny bit of smokiness and minerality. Lengthy finish and that is where the only part I don’t like comes in - a bit of reductive note. I’m not much of a blind taster with chardonnay but I would have picked this as French and likely Montrachet. Unlike most Cali chardonnay and not resembling the many lovely Oregon chardonnay I’ve enjoyed. Good stuff - nice surprise. But the note above is based on just sipping the wine - with food it became aggressively acidic and off-puttingly sharp. Second glass was back to just sipping and it was better, but that was a weird turn of events.

  • Blind tasting with friends. Pale gold with lemon/lime notes. Everyone guessed this as being a very good Montrachet. Lemon, minerals a touch of butter. Probably the best California chardonnay I have had, which was the general opinion of most people in our wine group. Would definitely buy again.

  • This bottle was better than my last. More like what I sampled at the winery. A very tropical nose of citrus and pear. Crisp, clean and lovely on the palate. Much more balanced with lemon zest dominating the flavor frofile. I found this wine to be quite interesting. Absolutely delish. Drink or hold.

  • Pale to medium lemon in color. Pronounced aromas of lemon, green apple, pineapple and honey. Very high acidity, medium alcohol, light to medium bodied. Pronounced flavors of lemon, green apple, pineapple. Long finish to go with that mouthwatering acidity.

Several of my previous bottles of Mayacamas chard (earlier vintages) were oxidized. I'm glad to say this one isn't. It's hitting on all cylinders.
