About Us

History

CellarTracker was originally created in March, 2003 by Eric LeVine as a way to keep track of his own cellar. At the time he was working at Microsoft, and CellarTracker was a simple hobby. After extending the site to allow two friends to use it, Eric was intrigued by the potential to create a broader phenomenon. In July, 2003 he launched a small beta program for CellarTracker which grew to 100 users tracking 60,000 bottles. Still working at Microsoft, Eric publicly launched the site in April, 2004, and it has steadily grown ever since. Eric officially left Microsoft in August, 2004 to spend most of his waking time on CellarTracker.

Now CellarTracker is the leading cellar management tool with hundreds of thousands of collectors tracking more than 158 million bottles. CellarTracker has also grown to become the largest database of community tasting notes with 10 million such notes as of early 2023. Every year more than 10 million visitors come to the site to read reviews and garner wine recommendations.

Historically CellarTracker has had a very small team, but 2021 and beyond have seen significant growth from 4.5 people to 25 (numerous contractors and consultants not listed below). After nearly two decades of methodical, organic growth, we see the urgency of the opportunity for more digital convergence in the wine industry. Our goal is to fully achieve the potential of CellarTracker and its amazing community of wine collectors and enthusiasts, and we are very excited by our wonderful, growing team!
