| Wine of the night was clearly the Masseto, but not a bad wine in the bunch. - N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Edition 161eme - France, Champagne
Pear, slight brioche, tropical fruit, lots of complexity that make it difficult to tease out individual flavors. At the same time, it seemed understated. (92 pts.)
- 2011 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Corton-Charlemagne Quintessence - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Exactly what Burgundy Al said on 4/1/2022. Quintessential white burgundy, chiseled minerality and also buttery richness, saline. (93 pts.)
- 1992 Dominus Estate Napanook Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley
Splash decant. The nose was there from the beginning, the palate built over 1 hour. Leather, rose, beef blood, dark earth, fantastic. (95 pts.)
- 1997 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Masseto Toscana IGT - Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Decanted per "rather be drinking wine". Earth, leather, cherry, chocolate, bright fruit, pretty berries, this would be a ringer in a right bank tasting. The acid keeps it lively. A rare wine where the complexity and the fruit are both showing well. (97 pts.)
- 2004 Isole e Olena Cepparello Toscana IGT - Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Pop and pour. The palate is slightly unforgiving at the start, with green tannins. There's a lot of pretty red fruit. (92 pts.)
- 2003 Château Climens - France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac
This sauternes is very well balanced for a 2003, only slightly heavy on the sweetness. Great balance, sufficient acid. (93 pts.)
