  Pear, slight brioche, tropical fruit, lots of complexity that make it difficult to tease out individual flavors. At the same time, it seemed understated.

  Splash decant. The nose was there from the beginning, the palate built over 1 hour. Leather, rose, beef blood, dark earth, fantastic.

  Decanted per "rather be drinking wine". Earth, leather, cherry, chocolate, bright fruit, pretty berries, this would be a ringer in a right bank tasting. The acid keeps it lively. A rare wine where the complexity and the fruit are both showing well.

  Pop and pour. The palate is slightly unforgiving at the start, with green tannins. There's a lot of pretty red fruit.

  This sauternes is very well balanced for a 2003, only slightly heavy on the sweetness. Great balance, sufficient acid.
