Three years since I last had this wine. It's holding up surprisingly well. The color is fading a bit to a ruby/garnet mix, and the fruit is also fading a bit. Raspberry, cherry, bramble, clove, smoke, menthol, licorice, earth on the nose and palate. Great acidity, texture and some nice, smooth tannins. The finish of cherry and spice lingers a long time. Consumed over 2 days, note from day 2. Nose: Medium expressiveness, dominated by sweet/ripe fruit - rock candy & grape Jolly Rancher, with undertones of cinnamon, and spice. This has really improved since the last time I had it. Color is bricking red, and it has a great nose of cherry and flowers. Light bodied, but good grip. On the palate it has cherries, black raspberries, and a little strawberry leading to sweet and savory spices and a smooth, balanced finish. Much better than a year ago. Decanted for an hour. It has evolved a Burgundian character that it lacked before. There was a green note last time I tried it that now has turned into a woody note similar to that found in a Sauvigny Les Beaune. Aerate to decanter, and per previous experience, let sit for five hours before T-day dinner. Experience very similar to my note of July 4, although the bouquet was more expressive than before with dark sweet cherries, strawberries, and cola. Dark rich fruit with cola and spice on the palate almost veers away from pinot land. Excellent flavors, but there is not a lot of depth, and the acid seems low. As before I'm noticing alcohol in the fairly short finish. This stood more on its own rather than pairing well with the various traditional fixings of Thanksgiving. Squarely B+ and suffered in comparison to the '05 Puig Parahy 1878 Carinyana consumed at the same time. No regrets at 20, but one bottle left and it will be gone by the new year, which is fine with me. (3962 views)

I think there might be too much hate on this since it's being advertised as a knock-your-socks-off pinot that got dual 94 point ratings (albeit one is from Wine & Spirits). Its definitely not 94 points but its also better than mid to high 80s which seems to be what some posters are giving it. It needs to breath and then strawberry and cola really start to come out. Its bit hot but not in a bad way. I really enjoyed it after a couple of hours and saved a glass for day two which was really enjoyable. Give it time and you will be rewarded. (5211 views)

Quite a comedown after the 1er cru Burgundies we have opened in recent days. Rich, glass-staining red. Popped, aerated, poured. Initially yielded up a nose of...not much! A half hour or so later, a slight hint of berry fruit on the nose, but this was swamped by Sterno-like intensity from the alcohol. That incredible heat, and in-your-face tannins, marred the fruit taste (found it quite the opposite of fruit forward) and failed to smooth out even on day two. Conclusion from partner as he discreetly poured his glass down the sink: needs more time in the cellar. We shall see... (4488 views)

A nice example of a Cali Pinot. More fruit forward than burgundy, but it's supposed to be. Bright red fruit, some celery stick, black pepper. Good at $20, but no more than that. The alcohol gets a little aggressive on the finish. Drinking this with dinner tonight so I will update if this evolves any. I also acquired this off the WL banner sale. At $20 I am happy to own this wine, however I would be dissapoionted paying $30+. It has a lot going for it in the aromatics category with lots of red fruit and a back end of herbaciousness. I tasted it immediately after opening and the inital attack on the palate was extremely fruit forward. Not what I was looking for. The mid-palate relaxed on the fruit and the finish was a bit short. It did not bring the thunder....at first. A couple hours later it evolved into something much more Burgundian. The intial fruity attack vanished and the wine evolved into something more delicate and balanced. Still, it is a bit short on the finish and light overall. I prefer that to a sugarfied fruit-bomb pinot any day, but I still would have appreciated a bit more complexity out this wine. (4140 views)

Was advised by WL sales associate that this is "even better the next day", so I vinturi-decanted in the morning and we consumed it about 10 hours later. Color ruby with some magenta and black tones, medium-light body. Bouquet of bright strawberries, cherries, cola, green stems. First taste after a couple hours air, the fruit is darker than the nose, with cherries, black raspberries, cola, and bits of spice. Medium acid and medium-plus tannins are quite firm despite a few years age, and there is some alcohol sticking out in the finish as noted by other reviewers. Eight hours later as we're relaxing before the light show, this is still quite tight and not showing me the fireworks. If anything, the bouquet is virtually gone. Overall excellent, but not a 94 at this stage as the WE and WineSpirits scores suggest. $20 paid seems about right. Next in 2-3 yrs. (3496 views)

Picked this up today on the WL big banner ad and grabbed it on the way home. Sadly, this does not come close to the WL big banner for the Zepaltas Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast earlier this year which was a total knock out for the same $20. This is a very good Pinot - it is still a Pinot so a light, easy drinking wine - but it has a great balance of earth, fruit and acid. Perfect glass for starting off a night - easy to drink on its own. It actually has enough acidity to stand up to some food as well.

Seems like I mightve not let this sit long enough after travel, only about 14 days, as its a bit closed and reduced on the nose. The palate is much more expressive, with a darker presence to its fruit than I usually find with the good level of pinot acidity that this has. Also features some good cola and italian spice notes for a solid wine.
