Tasted by rthl2 on 6/5/2021 & rated 92 points: Forest floor and cherry on the nose. Dark fruits, acidity, great texture and integration on palate with fine tannins. Expect this will continue to drink well for easily another 3-5 years++. (566 views)
Tasted by OhioNerd on 10/27/2016 & rated 90 points: Drinking very well. (2321 views)
Tasted by ŞarapTutkunları on 12/14/2015 & rated 87 points: Kiremit rengine dönüşümü başlayan yakut renginde.
(4715 views)
Tasted by budh on 6/5/2015: Three years since I last had this wine. It's holding up surprisingly well. The color is fading a bit to a ruby/garnet mix, and the fruit is also fading a bit. Raspberry, cherry, bramble, clove, smoke, menthol, licorice, earth on the nose and palate. Great acidity, texture and some nice, smooth tannins. The finish of cherry and spice lingers a long time. A well-made wine. (3501 views)
Tasted by meinkep on 11/29/2014 & rated 90 points: This wine was consumed as PNP. It started out "tight", a bit sharp, a modest floral notes in its nose. However, over the course of a few hours, it really opened up into a lovely pinot: wonderful cherry and fruit flavors, nice light mouth feel, and smooth finish. (4115 views)
Tasted by kdart000 on 5/26/2014 & rated 89 points: Nice soft Pinot Noir, full finish, drinking nicely now. Cherry, raspberry and enough backbone to make this a well balanced wine. (4415 views)
Tasted by Winiac on 4/6/2014 & rated 89 points: Very good structure and acidity. A bit spicy, but good fruit flavor. Considering the vintage, they did a fantastic job. (2790 views)
Tasted by kdart000 on 2/22/2014 & rated 89 points: Nice California Pinot Noir. Soft tannins and plentiful fruit make this a crowd pleaser. I would say this is right to drink now but no rush, it is good for a while. (2511 views)

Tasted by prasm on 11/15/2013 & rated 90 points: Consumed over 2 days, note from day 2. Nose: Medium expressiveness, dominated by sweet/ripe fruit - rock candy & grape Jolly Rancher, with undertones of cinnamon, and spice. Palate: Medium bodied, spicy blue and red fruit attack - not as sweet as the nose suggests, nice mid-palate lift, sweetness and spice dominate the back-end. Finish: Medium-plus sense of ripe red and blue fruit and spice. My last of of 4 bottles consumed over the past 24 months - this is showing as good or better than any. (1817 views)
Tasted by td1836 on 5/24/2013 & rated 91 points: This has really improved since the last time I had it. Color is bricking red, and it has a great nose of cherry and flowers. Light bodied, but good grip. On the palate it has cherries, black raspberries, and a little strawberry leading to sweet and savory spices and a smooth, balanced finish. The extra time in the bottle has really smoothed this out and it is drinking great today. (356 views)
Tasted by stevegpg on 4/6/2013 & rated 91 points: Wine tasting 2013 (2326 views)
Tasted by wirelesswine on 3/1/2013 & rated 91 points: Very pretty on the nose, this is in a great spot and exhibiting expressive cherry and strawberry on the nose, with a hint of cedar. It's bringing great balance on the palate, with ripe wild cherry and cranberry fruit backed by firm acidity that begs for another sip. A great example of what California pinot noir should be. (2384 views)
Tasted by kgoldsbe on 2/9/2013 & rated 90 points: Soft, medium bodied, prevalent red fruit especially cherry, drinks well now. (2358 views)
Tasted by hesnctrl on 12/25/2012 & rated 91 points: PnD. Very translucent crimson with slight bricking. This wine is at a really great place right now. Sweet strawberries, Asian spice, plush mouthfeel...oh, so nice. Its gotten a lot better since the last bottle about a year ago. I'd drink this now. (2493 views)
Tasted by prasm on 12/5/2012 & rated 89 points: Popped 2 hours before first pour, consumed over 2 hours. Nose: Medium expressiveness, cranberry, black cherry, and cinnamon. Palate: Medium bodied, tart red fruit flavors with spice, just a little thin thru the mid-palate. Finish: Medium length sense of tart red fruit. (2503 views)
Tasted by bechi on 9/18/2012 & rated 88 points: Deep red, smooth, round, and fruity with notes of cherry cola and milk chocolate. (2347 views)
Tasted by WinePT on 7/4/2012 & rated 86 points: Cherry and blackberry, spice, and a touch of earth. The fruit is fading and the spice is starting to predominate. Don't think there's any upside left. (2509 views)
Tasted by joefel on 5/20/2012 & rated 90 points: Same notes as before. Paired beautifully with cedar planked Copper River salmon. I really enjoy this wine. (2667 views)
Tasted by anonymoose12345 on 5/16/2012 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured. Best bottle yet. Nose of cherry cola and baking spice. On the palate a deftly balanced menage of red fruit, earth, spice and a backbone of acidity. Drinking superbly right now. (2417 views)
Tasted by Number51 on 5/7/2012 & rated 88 points: New world cherry cola. (2367 views)
Tasted by prasm on 5/1/2012 & rated 89 points: Popped 1 hour before first pour, consumed over 4 hours. Nose: Medium expressiveness, cherry, cola, tea, and cinnamon. Palate: Medium-full bodied, nice mouth feel, sweet red fruit and a hint of spice, not dynamic at all but nice muted flavors none the less. Finish: Medium length sense of red fruit and cola. Overall there is little to complain about with this effort, but on the other hand there is little to get excited about either - just a nice drinking wine. (2331 views)
Tasted by navquarter on 4/21/2012 & rated 88 points: Smooth but a bit thin - there's just not much there...no heat which is good, but not much depth of flavors either

Nose: hints of plums, carroway, and graphite with some of that pinot giveaway barnyard
Pallet: slight hint of strawberry but very subtle and some nice caramel
Legs: a bit of tannin but very smooth if a bit light - i could have done for more of something...anything really (2477 views)
Tasted by budh on 4/17/2012 & rated 92 points: A lovely PN. Nice fruit - dark cherry and some red berries. Hint of clove, rose, vanilla. Very tasty! (1267 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 4/13/2012 & rated 89 points: A nose of dusty black cherry, medium ruby in color. A medium to full bodied Pinot, with black cherries, black raspberries, mineral and dusty spice finish. A bit past peak but was very good for the clearance price, not sure what WE drank with their 94 rating. (2318 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
